Certified Rebuilds
SLIDE SHOW UPDATED 2007-06-20
Caterpillar's Certified Rebuild program gives new meaning to second life for work weary machines. CAT equipment can be restored, complete with a new serial number and warranty. Kramer follows stringent guidelines that are audited by Caterpillar.

It takes approximately six weeks to recertify a machine from start to finish. First, Kramer performs an in-depth appraisal. If a recertification makes sense, a guaranteed price is given. The cost to certify a machine is appreciably less than purchasing new.

Kramer has completed over 24 certified rebuilds since the program began in 1986. They include Off Highway trucks, Motor Graders, Buggies and Track Type Tractors.
Contamination Control - It Makes a Difference You Can See
As big and rugged as most earthmoving and farm machines are, it is surprising how much they can be damaged by particles that are too small to be seen without a microscope.

Dirt, sand, grit and even the finest dust can cause problems when they find their way into engine oils, vehicle fluid powered systems, hydraulic fluids and coolants. When they do, parts wear faster, need more servicing and can require shorter replacement intervals. They are also more prone to failure, which can shut a machine down suddenly and unexpectedly. This adds up to higher maintenance and operating costs.

“ Caterpillar is the first major equipment manufacturer to drive a contamination control program down through the dealer network,” said Steve Landau, Caterpillar Service Operations Representative for Western Canada. “In the coming months and years, we are going to aggressively deliver this advantage to our customers.”

Kramer was the first Cat dealership in the world to have all their branches obtain a rating of thee or more stars in Contamination Control. Caterpillar’s target was for 25% of dealer branch stores to reach three stars or better.

There is a system of checks to ensure that the proper processes and equipment are in place to deliver a clean repair to the customer. Some examples include:
Filters on solvent tanks for cleaning parts
Changing from saw dust to absorbent pads (reduces air borne particles and makes spills easier to clean up).
Testing bulk oil and the customer’s machine after a hydraulic repair
Plugs and caps are used on hoses

“Why are we doing this? Our customers are demanding more performance from their machines and longer component life. To improve performance we have had to increase hydraulic pressures, increase flow rates, and tighten tolerances inside the component,” added Landau.
Contamination Control Facts:
½ teaspoon of dust can contaminate a 250 litre drum of hydraulic oil
     Contamination robs power
     Contamination increases warranty
Contamination is a major cause of repeat failures
     Contamination shortens component life

Using a dry process cleaning machine that is environmentally friendly - it uses no water or chemicals, is 98% efficient and allows for zero deterioration of paper quality - Kramer’s new air filter cleaning shop will offer our customers huge savings due to the extended life of the filter. The patented technology will allow us to safely and effectively clean an element up to 8 - 10 times as opposed to the standard method of washing which allows an element to be cleaned only 2 -3 times before damage occurs.
