Blast from the Past
DATE: 2008-12-05

It’s not often that we at Kramer News get calls from people outside the company pitching ideas for stories. That’s why I was incredibly surprised - and extremely excited - when Ron Wurtz of Sand Lake Farms (Val Marie, SK) called me up and asked if I would be interested in using a photograph comparing a piece of antiquated farm equipment with a newer piece of their Caterpillar equipment in an upcoming issue of Kramer News. What I received was not what I expected...it was better! It’s always great when someone exceeds your expectations. Mr. Wurtz did just that. The photograph above is a superb comparison of types of farming machines used at the turn of the last century and the beginning of the new millennium. One of many pieces of Caterpillar equipment owned by Sand Lake Farms, they purchased the MT855 Challenger track tractor from Kramer (Swift Current) in 2004. The machine currently has 2,000 hours on it. The threshing machine - one of 5 different ‘ancient’ harvest machines owned by Sand Lake Farms - dates back to the early 1900s. Thanks to Ron Wurtz for the image & equipment information.

Kramer attended the 2008 Canadian Western Agribition - Canada's Premier International Agricultural Show and Marketplace featuring over 4,000 head of livestock, over 450 commercial trade show exhibits, the CCA Finals Rodeo and western entertainment - at EVRAZ Place in Regina November 24 – 29.

Patrons of the event were afforded the opportunity to view the all-new 2009 Caterpillar 299C Compact Track Loader - a compact and versatile 90 hp machine that is ready for a multitude of applications. The available High Flow XPS option allows for maximum power to the hydraulic circuits while minimizing engine stalling and lost productivity. The sealed and pressurized cab option, available air ride seat, selectable implement control, 2 speed standard, work speed control, pattern changer and thumb actuated auxiliary hydraulics provide the operator with a safe and comfortable working environment while maintaining optimum performance.

Also on display was a new Kramer service truck. This Ford F-650 super cab and chassis truck service body and hoist – with its Caterpillar C7 ACERT diesel 230 HP engine - has a GVW of 11,793 kg (26,400 lb). Combined with its IMT Dominator-One service body, IMT field-ready hydraulic compressor and IMT 5,000 lb maximum lift telescoping crane, it’s like taking our shop to your field or job site!

The University of Regina Cougars Men’s Hockey Team is hosting a sponsor appreciation night on Saturday, December 6 in the Strasbourg arena. You may recall a news story that appeared here in early September (‘From One Cat to Another’): ‘As a coach, player and Kramer’s official hockey aficionado, Christiaens was delighted to represent Saskatchewan’s Caterpillar dealer as a participating sponsor of the University of Regina Cougars Men’s Hockey Team in their one-day threshing bee.’

Kramer Ag Sales Consultant Hugh Christiaens (Regina) will be all over this event, too. He will once again represent Kramer as the U of R Cougars alumni host a non-conference game with the Caronport Clippers. The game will thank and recognize the contributions of the sponsors of the Alumni Ag project.

The thank you card seen here – with the LEXION 570R rotary combine used during the threshing bee - was sent to all invited guests.

Congratulations, Hugh, on a job well done!
